Fernando Alonso apparently will have to wait to make his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut with one of the Porsche 919 Hybrid.

A report from German publication Auto Motor und Sport says that the two-time Formula One World Champion was in line to co-drive Porsche’s third car for this year’s Le Mans with fellow F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg, who will make two World Endurance Championship starts this year along with his regular Force India duties.

But AMuS reports that Honda, which returns to F1 in 2015 as the engine supplier for Alonso’s new/old team, McLaren, blocked the Spaniard’s bid to race one of Porsche’s 919 Hybrids in the endurance classic.

Thus, Alonso will have to put his full focus this year on helping McLaren and Honda get the Woking team back to the top of the heap in F1.

Last summer, Alonso expressed his interest in Le Mans but figured that he would have to wait until his F1 career was finished before he could take part in the world’s biggest sports car event. Earlier in 2014, he had waved the French tricolour to start the race.
